Some people have the unfortunate experience of dealing with psoriasis, a condition that causes patches to appear on different parts of the body. These patches are often irritated and inflamed. The skin condition starts to develop as the white blood cells attempt to fight off an infection that is not present, which will eventually lead to those dry spots of skin. Unfortunately, there is currently no known cure that is guaranteed to get rid of the condition but there are ways to get relief, many of which work to clear the psoriasis up over time.
Take a Daily Vitamin
Because psoriasis starts on the inside of the body, it may help to consume a daily vitamin that will work on the inside. Dozens of different vitamins are sold on the market, so choosing which one to take may be a bit challenging for you. Most people with the condition get a bit of relief from taking a combination of vitamin D and fish oil supplements. You can easily find these types of vitamins and supplements at your local drugstore.
Always ask your physician before you take something. You want to make sure it is a good idea for you to take these vitamins to help treat your psoriasis.
Keep Skin Moisturized
It is better to keep your skin moisturized to prevent those dry patches from appearing. Certain types of moisturizers may irritate the skin, so always look for products that are specifically designed for those with sensitive skin to avoid any additional irritation.
Keep Fragrance at a Minimum
Many of the products you use on your body contain different types of fragrances to make the products smell better but those fragrances can cause even more irritation. If you are going to use soap, shower gel, or even body lotion, look for products made for sensitive skin instead of going for the types of products that contain too much fragrance.
Change Your Eating Habits
According to medical expert Lea Christensen from the Danish health website Doc24.dk making some changes to the way that you eat could help with your psoriasis. Foods that are high in fat can contribute to the condition, so try to avoid them as much as you can. Focus on consuming more foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids because they are good for you and may help with the irritation.
Start Soaking in the Tub
Using hot water in the tub or when washing dishes can irritate the skin and make your psoriasis worse. However, soaking in the tub with lukewarm water and a few drops of olive oil could make you feel so much better. The water is not too cold and not too hot, and it will provide that soothing relief you need, especially when adding olive oil to it.
Avoid Stress
If you are always stressed out, the stress can eventually make your psoriasis much worse. Try doing different things that help you relieve the stress, such as soaking in the tub, going for a long walk, or even meditating for a few minutes each day.
Skip the Alcohol
Studies show those who drink alcoholic beverages have a greater chance of dealing with psoriasis than those who do not drink alcoholic beverages. If you currently drink here and there, try to skip out on the alcohol for the sake of your skin.
Give Turmeric a Try
Many people like using turmeric powder as a natural way to get relief from psoriasis. There are different ways to use it, whether you want to add it to some of your meals, take it as a dietary supplement, or even apply it directly to the skin for relief.
Quit Cigarettes
Those who smoke have a greater chance of experiencing psoriasis. If you smoke cigarettes, now is the time to quit. Quitting could help you with your psoriasis while improving your health and potentially saving your life in the long run.
