Green Garden Project “Grows” at Sinai

Did you ever think that you could have your very own garden box, full of vegetables, at work? Or that you could weed and water a garden during your lunch break?

That’s exactly what employees and the surrounding community at Sinai Hospital will have a chance to do thanks to eighteen brand new 12′ x 4′ garden boxes, which are located just over the foot bridge by the Mirowski Building.

The Freedom to Be Green Team commissioned eighteen groups at Sinai to take responsibility of their own garden boxes. Five staff members from each department and the community had to be committed to tending to the garden, which can grow a variety of vegetables, except corn. Garden tools will be provided, as well as an irrigation system that will water the plants at night. All of the planter boxes will have soil and compost in place.

So, who are the lucky groups that get their very own garden box? They are: Neighborhood, Campus Services, Radiology, Pastoral Care, Neurology BSI, Cancer Center, Physical Medicine Rehab, Labor & Delivery, Marketing, ORs/Periop, Orthopedic Surgery, Planning, Mother Baby, Patient Financial Services, Comp Outpatient Rehab, Education Resource Center, Food Service and Pediatric ICU.

Take a look at the progress of the garden, from the moment it was started to the moment employees planted their very own vegetables, below:

The Freedom to Be Green Team commissioned ten departments at Sinai to take responsibility of their own employee garden boxes. Five staff members from each department had to be committed to tending to the garden, which can grow anything but corn.

As you can see, some of the departments have already filled their garden boxes with plants. We wish everyone participating in the green project the best of luck.  We’ll keep you updated on their success in a future blog post.
