The Future of Healthcare is a relative “black box” these days.
“Reform” and advances in healthcare delivery technology (think mobile phone apps) make any predictions on what a visit to our local physician will look like in 2022 feel like groping in the dark. Here’s the latest evidence that questions the role of the medical doctor in the future of healthcare.
The Doctor’s Company (the nations largest medical malpractice insurer) just surveyed 5000 members producing some interesting findings about physicians thoughts on “Reform”
Here is the headline for their press release:
Nine Out of 10 Physicians Unwilling to Recommend Health Care As a Profession, Exacerbating Anticipated Physician Shortage
And here is what they found.
- Forty-three percent of doctors are likely to retire in the next five years due to health care reform.
- Only 11 percent of doctors are likely to recommend the medical profession to their children or other family members due to health care reform.
- Sixty-five percent of doctors do not think that health care reform will reduce defensive medicine.
- Sixty percent of doctors believe that health care reform will negatively impact patient care.
- Fifty-one percent of doctors believe that health care reform will negatively impact their relationship with patients.
