Katie Malbon, MD trained as a Pediatrician in the UK and worked for 8 years in several Central London Hospitals. During this time she realized that there was a big gap in her training; Adolescents. 3 years ago she moved with her family to New York. This gave her the perfect opportunity to pursue that additional training. She obtained her New York State License in January 2009 and has been working at Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center (MSAHC) ever since. She took the position as Assistant Professor at MSAHC in February 2011. Adolescent medicine is something she is passionate about. They are an intriguing entity and communicating with teenagers can be quite a challenge. It became very apparent to her that for teenagers one of the most effective communication channels is text messaging. In January 2010 she conceptualized and launched ‘Text in the City’ – a text messaging service for youth attending the Adolescent Health Center. Her other interest is Teen Parents and she is currently coordinator of the Teen Parent Program at MSAHC. In her occasional spare moments she blogs about my experience with text messaging and teens:
